Conexant Polaris Unused CIR Function is a system-level driver from Conexant Systems designed for PCs that include Conexant’s Polaris-based hardware. CIR stands for Consumer Infrared, a feature some platforms expose even when no infrared hardware is actually installed. This driver binds to that unused CIR interface so Windows recognizes it correctly, preventing “Unknown device” warnings and avoiding unnecessary resource allocation.

What it does:

  • Identifies the Polaris CIR function on systems where the IR hardware is not populated and marks it as unused.
  • Cleans up Device Manager by removing unknown or placeholder entries tied to the CIR interface.
  • Operates silently in the background with negligible overhead and no user interface.

What it does not do:

  • It does not enable infrared features or add new functionality.
  • It does not change audio behavior or other Polaris components.
  • It does not collect or transmit personal data.

Typical use case:

  • After a fresh Windows installation or system update, a device may appear as unknown due to an unimplemented CIR interface. Installing this driver resolves the entry and keeps device enumeration tidy.

Delivery:

  • Commonly preinstalled by PC manufacturers or delivered through Windows Update on supported systems that include Conexant Polaris hardware.

Conexant Polaris Unused CIR Function is developed by Conexant Systems and is used by 50 users of Software Informer. The most popular version of this product among our users is 1.0.
